Breast Augmentation
(Augmentation Mammaplasty)

Breast augmentation involves enlarging the breast through the use of inflatable saline implants. A breast augmentation can be performed at any age but Dr. Williams recommends women wait until their breasts have fully developed (usually after the age of 18) before undergoing this procedure.

You may be a good candidate for breast augmentation if you are looking to:
  • enlarge your breasts by 1-2 cup sizes
  • replace lost volume in the breast following childbirth or advancing age
  • correct a breast asymmetry
The breast augmentation procedure involves a small incision being made in either the fold where the breast meets the chest or within the lower border of the areola. A pocket is carefully made for the implant beneath the pectoralis muscle (in the majority of the cases) and the implant is inserted and inflated. Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure and most patients return to work in 3-4 days. The day following the procedure, the patient returns for follow-up at which time she is changed into a sports bra which is to be worn for 4 weeks. Non-strenuous activity can be resumed immediately.
