Tummy Tuck
(Abdominoplasty)
A tummy tuck is a procedure designed to reshape the lower abdomen by excising excess skin and fat. A tummy tuck is not a treatment for obesity but it can often contour an area of the abdomen that is very difficult to reshape with diet and exercise.
This procedure is usually performed in conjunction with liposuction so that the entire abdomen can be contoured together. The procedure involves an incision usually extending from hip bone to hip bone just above the pubic area. Through this incision, the parallel abdominal muscles (which often lose their shape following pregnancies or large weight gains) are re-aligned and the skin and fat between the belly button and pubic area is completely removed. The skin above the belly button is then advanced below the belly button and the incision is closed. The belly button remains attached to the abdominal wall and is simply brought to the surface of the skin through a new incision. This often leaves a very tight, flat, shapely abdomen.
Dr. Williams usually prefers his patients to spend the night following surgery in the Piper overnight care center so that they can be cared for by experienced surgical nurses. A compression garment is usually worn for four weeks following the procedure to ensure the best possible outcome.
